A computer network near Boston, whose main purpose is the transmitting of unwanted spam type messages, was tracked and sued by the Massachussetts attorney general. The information which led to the accusations has been supplied by Microsoft, the company continuing in this way the battle against piracy and spam.

Tom Reilly, the Massachusetts attorney general, demands the immediate shutting down of the computer network, motivating that with each passing minute, the persons behind it are claiming more and more victims of the unwanted e-mail traffic.

Reilly and Microsoft have started legal actions against the seven individuals and the two companies because their activity is representative for the promoting methods employed by spammers to sell their products. In this case, millions e-mail messages were being sent to e-mail addresses from Monaco, Australia and France.

The leader of the spammer group, Leo Kuvayev, whose network operated from two locations, one near Boston, and the other in Russia, didn't make any official comments to the charges he faces.

Microsoft officials have announced that the spam level generated by this network has exceeded many records.

In the last three years, Microsoft has fought against spammers and virus authors, mainly because these attacks target Microsoft products.
