Roy Hicks, a 79-year-old man living in South Africa, probably loves Skype more than anybody else, as his life was saved thanks to Microsoft’s VoIP platform.

According to a report published by News24, Hicks was talking to his son in New Zealand on Skype when two armed men broke into his house during what seemed to be a robbery.

The two were tying up Hicks when they were spotted on the webcam by the victim’s son who was quick to alert the South African police about the robbery.

Police officers rushed to scene, shooting dead one of the attackers and arresting the other one, the report states.

“I am very grateful to my son Mark. This thing was very traumatic for me. Mark couldn’t see them very well but he could hear the racket,” Hicks was quoted as saying, while also expressing his gratitude for the Skype VoIP platform.
