Microsoft is said to focus much more on the security of its products these days and security experts around the world applaud the Redmond-based software giant for its efforts.
Amol Sarwate, director of Qualys Vulnerability Labs, said that Microsoft had greatly improved the security of its products and had “the most mature security process in the industry for 2012.”
Speaking with Help Net Security about Microsoft’s security enhancements, Sarwate revealed that the number of zero-day vulnerabilities discovered in 2012 was 29 percent lower as compared to the previous year.
In addition, the number of exploits discovered before Microsoft released a patch dropped from 7 in 2011 to 5 in 2012, the security expert
said.
“On the flip side, there were vulnerabilities discovered in brand new products like Windows RT,
Windows 8, as well as the latest versions of Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer. This has been a trend with all vendors and although newer products are getting more secure we believe that attackers and security researchers will continue finding security flaws is newer products,” he explained.
