Microsoft’s new CEO, regardless of whether we’re talking about Satya Nadella or somebody else, has to deal with quite a lot of challenges, including the completion of the company’s transformation plan to devices and services.

Ted Schadler, an analyst at tech research firm Forrester, told Reuters in an interview that Microsoft’s new CEO’s main challenge is to make the Redmond-based tech giant focus on more products beside Windows, so it’s mandatory to expand the Office productivity suite to other platforms.

“Microsoft has to be present on every device. They can't be captive to Windows or Windows Phone. When you look at the applications that are on the rise to support mobile, it is not Microsoft with Word, it's Dropbox or Evernote. It’s really about being everywhere,” Schadler noted.

“They have to port Office to iPad, they have to do it,” Schadler continued. “That's an important, immediate decision that Satya's going to have to drive.”

Microsoft has already pledged to bring Office on other platforms, but it’s not exactly clear when this is actually going to happen, especially due to the company’s transition to devices and services and the search for a new CEO.
