Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally is said to be one of the leading candidates for the CEO position at Microsoft, even though officials of the American automaker have until now denied all reports on such a switch.

A report published by Bloomberg and citing people involved in the auto business reveal that Microsoft’s interest in Alan Mulally is actually doing more harm than good to the car manufacturer because more people are interested in the CEO switch than in new models.

Mulally, who previously said that he wanted to stay with Ford until at least 2014, is being questioned by the company’s board over the his short-term plans, as directors wants to put things straight in this saga and find out whether they need to search for a new CEO or not.

In addition to Mulally, Microsoft is also said to be holding talks with a number of other candidates, including Satya Nadella, Stephen Elop, Kevin Turner, and Tony Bates.
