Microsoft has launched the new Windows 8.1 OS update last month and as it usually happens after such a release, device manufacturers around the world rushed to release tablets running this build.

According to a report released by Paul Thurrott of WinSuperSite, Microsoft wants to sell no more no less than 16 million Windows 8.1 tablets, with the company to put the emphasis on the improved touch experience offered to users.

Of course, Redmond hopes that Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 will both become best-sellers on the windows tablet market, as they received major hardware upgrades and are now running Windows 8.1.

This is pretty much a sign that Microsoft has higher expectations from the revamped Surface generation, as its original models performed poorly and even caused a $900 million (€670 million) loss due to unsold units across the world.
