Today, Microsoft Hardware announced the availability of its new Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 5000, a relative of the Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000, but featuring a smaller form factor.

The new product is meant to provide users with increased portability, while also delivering a great experience when coupled with a tablet or a netbook.

The new Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 5000 comes with an ergonomist-approved Comfort Curve design, but lacks the separate number pad that was present on its bigger brother.

The device was designed so as to promote a more natural wrist posture when typing; yet, the comfort it has to offer does not affect its portability, since it comes with a slim design and is both lightweight and easy to carry.

“This is like the “little brother” to the Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000 – but without the separate number pad. The Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 5000 is a full-size keyboard and is light-weight with a very slim design,” Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc notes in a recent blog post.

“It features the approved design by Microsoft’s resident Ergonomist Dr. Dan Odell. Specifically, the design has a 6-degree curve that allows the keys to stay in a contiguous arc for a more natural wrist posture.”

With the new Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 5000, no cords are required for a great experience, and docks and USB Nano transceivers can be left at home as well.

All that is required is the pairing of this device via Bluetooth with a Windows-based tablet, with the iPad and even Android devices.

“Whether you’re searching for the latest music, taking notes in a meeting or just catching up on email, make sure you’re getting things done comfortably,” Microsoft Hardware notes.

The new Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 5000 has been already made available for purchase in the United States, featuring the price tag of $49.95 (38 Euros).
