This week, Microsoft made available for download new software for Apple’s iPhone users, namely the Bing Get Me There application.

The application was already available for the owners of Windows Phone devices, and the iOS flavor is now available through the App Store.

Microsoft’s Bing Get Me There was made available as a London travel app, so that users would find it easy to get from A to B using Bing maps.

The software will provide them with true door-to-door directions, live tube updates and Bus, District Light Rail (DLR) and Overground data, so that they can easily find the best route that fits their needs.

Some of the main features of the application include:

- Plan journeys using Bing maps, the London Underground network, DLR, London buses and London Overground trains

- Full tube maps and live service updates

- Live departures and status updates by tube station

- Nearest tube/train stations (with map and walking directions)

- Set up favourite journeys with ‘live tile’ alerts on your home screen

- Weekend service updates - Offline access to tube maps (great for when you are on the tube)

According to Microsoft, since navigation around London can easily prove a challenge for many, regardless of whether commuters or tourists, the Bing Get Me There app should prove a great companion for iOS users.

“New to the iPhone, Bing Get Me There features flip functionality, which means that if users turn their iPhone upside down, they get instant reverse directions from their previous journey,” Microsoft notes.

“In addition, the app changes color to reflect the tube line users are looking at. Plus, Get Me There also allows people to use Bing web search from directly within the app – handy if they want to find out more information about that trendy bar they’re going to after work.”

And with the Olympics 2012 games set to kick off in London in a few days’ time, the app can prove the best opportunity for a navigation solution for all those interested in attending.

The new software can be found in Apple’s App Store today; it weighs in at 14.1 MB. It is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.
