Microsoft has announced a $150 (€110) discount for the Surface RT, trying to boost sales of the tablet once again, but a new report claims that this isn’t going to happen.

Citing “Taiwan-based supply chain makers,” Digitimes writes that Microsoft’s price cut is unlikely to increase sales on the short term, especially because shipments decreased significantly in the second quarter of the year.

Rumor has it that Microsoft is cutting the price of the Surface RT all over the world in an attempt to clear out inventories ahead of the launch of the second-generation tablet.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the new Surface is expected to arrive in October and to include a smaller unit with an 8-inch screen and running the newly-developed Windows 8.1 OS update.
