Although for many Windows Phone fans the last week’s news that WhatsApp removed its application from the Store did not come a surprise, there are still a lot of Windows Phone users who are impatiently waiting to download the application on their new smartphones.

Those who have recently upgraded from an older Windows Phone handset to a newer and better one, as well as those who may have switched from another platform to Microsoft’s mobile operating system this week are still unable to get WhatsApp Messenger on their smartphones.

I have already explained in an editorial the issues that WhatsApp users are confronted with on Windows Phone platform and the fact that the developer doesn’t seem to care that they have not received an important update since January.

Well, it looks that WhatsApp has finally listened to users’ feedback and has decided to fix all the notification and battery drainage issues that lots of Windows Phone users have experienced since Microsoft launched Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview.

Even though most of these issues only affected Windows Phone 8.1 early adopters, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore says that the notification core in this version of the platform is different than in Windows Phone 8. He also highlights the fact that the WhatsApp notification issue is in Windows Phone 8 Update 3, which is rather curious.

According to Belfiore, WhatsApp’s developers have already got in touch with Microsoft’s engineers for this notification issue and that both teams are now working to fix it.

More information on the matter is promised soon, though it’s been almost a week since WhatsApp Messenger was removed from Windows Phone Store (both 8.0 and 8.1 versions) and developers have yet to come forward with an official statement.

Those who are now using WhatsApp, either the stable or the beta version, won’t have any issues with the messaging service, just the usual notification problems that affect Windows Phone 8.1 early adopters.

In fact, the beta version of WhatsApp Messenger has received quite a lot of updates in the last couple of months, unlike the stable iteration that has not seen any improvements for several months now.

It’s unclear whether or not WhatsApp developers plan on adding new features to the application before pushing it to Windows Phone Store or they will only fix the issues reported by users.

All in all, we will keep an eye out for any additional news on the matter, so stay tuned.
