LG and Microsoft have just announced that they signed an agreement to provide exclusive free apps for Windows Phone 7 smartphone owners. LG is one of the manufactures that have been backing up Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 project since day one by announcing its first smartphones that will run on the new mobile platform.

Furthermore, ten applications worth over $30 will be given away for free every 60 days and will be available for download for a period of 60 days.

The apps will be chosen from a wide range of categories including social networking, utilities, as well as gaming and will be downloadable through the LG Application Store.

“When we pledged early last year to support Microsoft's smartphone strategy, we knew we were making a decision that had the potential to generate ripples in the ecosystem,” said Chang Ma, Vice President of Mobile Communications Marketing Strategy Team.

“Microsoft's commitment to the developer community is well known and respected in the industry, and we look forward to seeing this partnership with Microsoft lead to greater things,” added Ma.

In addition to the ten apps offered for free, the Korean manufacturer plans to provide access to Windows Phone 7 smartphone users to a wide range of applications developed directly by the company.

The official announcement mentions a few titles with social networking functions such as Type n Walk, Voice SNS, but also some practical utilities like Subway AR.

While LG hasn't disclosed any information regarding the availability of the titles, it mentioned that the LG – Microsoft development platform will make its debut this month.

“We built the new Windows Phone Marketplace to create new business opportunities for developers and partners alike,” said Brandon Watson, director for Windows Phone at Microsoft.

“This collaboration with LG creates a win-win situation for consumers and developers and will further showcase the variety of quality games and applications available on Windows Phone 7,” continued Watson.
