Phil Spencer, one of the public faces of the new Xbox One and a vice president at Microsoft Studios, says that his company is interested in introducing free-to-play video games experiences on its upcoming home consoles.

The executive tells The Official Xbox Magazine that, “Having a box that is natively connected means that the digital distribution of content be even more prevalent, which I think is a good thing.”

He adds, “More service-based games on our system, like Happy Wars, is a good thing - and these services can grow over time.”

The Xbox One is set to be launched before the end of 2013 and has been described as a device that will mix traditional video games and other entertainment experiences.

Microsoft wants to expand video game experiences on the device in order to capture a wider audience than for the Xbox 360.
