Microsoft promises that it has long-term plans to create a spiritual successor for the 1 versus 100 trivia game on the recently launched Xbox One, although the team is not willing to offer more details at the moment.

Dave McCarthy, who is the life style entertainment manager working at the Microsoft Studios, says that the studio working on it has plans to alter the core formula of the game in order to make it more social and interesting.

He tells Polygon that, “The approach is something we really enjoyed. We will do something in the future for Xbox One that is like that, because spiritually we thought it was a pretty cool experience ourselves.”

The executive adds, “The notion of bringing a large number of people together in both a social and let’s say a more casual gaming format is something we believe in a lot. In some ways 1 vs. 100 was a little bit ahead of its time. From a production perspective it gave us a few challenges in terms of the sheer effort to bring that to market on a regular basis.”

On the Xbox 360, 1 versus 100 was a massively multiplayer trivia title that allowed gamers to compete against other human beings for real prizes.

The game managed to get more than 3 million downloads and more than 100,000 of them logged in at the same time to play.

It’s still unclear why it was finally canceled, but Microsoft has always claimed that it had a better version in the works, although no details have been offered.

The Xbox One was advertised as an entertainment experience for the whole family and if the company can create a solid and constantly challenging trivia experience with both local and online multiplayer, it could have a long-term hit on its hands.
