The team at Microsoft in charge of the Xbox One home console aims to improve overall players’ behavior on the next-gen device by actively rewarding those gamers who make a positive contribution in their online interactions.

Frank Savage, a development lead at the company, is quoted by Polygon as saying during a Game Developers Conference talk aimed at indie teams that the purpose of the new initiative is to promote an improved level of interaction on its platforms.

Microsoft also seems to believe that positive reinforcement is better at achieving its aims than punishment.

At the moment, the company does not know exactly what kind of rewards it plans to deliver or when the new program might be introduced as the entire idea is still in the brainstorming stage.

Currently, players who get negative feedback on the Xbox One need to display it on their gamercards, will be grouped with other bad players and can also be penalized when it comes to multiplayer matchmaking.

Savage says that Microsoft is getting around 425,000 feedback submits for Xbox Live during each week and needs to actively verify each one.

The new rewards program will probably be delivered via a future Xbox One firmware update.
