The team at Microsoft working on the Xbox One home console says that the March firmware update for the platform will not include a notification to show gamers when one of their friends comes online, although the feature might be delivered in the future.

The company explains that it is planning to add support for audio output that uses the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround standard.

The feature was not offered when the Xbox One was launched because of a software scheduling issue, and gamers needed to use DTS Digital Surround output over HDMI.

The focus of the coming software update for the Microsoft device is on multiplayer matchmaking and on the party feature, but gamers will also be able to get a wider range of improvements.

The friend list will be tweaked and Marc Whitten, one of the developers working on the new firmware, says on Twitter that a notification for the moment when a friend comes online will be considered at a later date, despite the fact that the community has been asking for it since the platform was launched.

The biggest changes coming to the Xbox One are designed to enhance the experience that gamers will have with the new Titanfall shooter from developer Respawn Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts.

Launch of the title is widely seen as the best chance that the Microsoft device has to bridge the sales gap that the rival PlayStation 4 from Sony has opened up during the Christmas shopping season and in the first month of this year.

The experience will be offered on the Xbox One and the PC on March 11 in United States and March 13 in Europe.

Xbox 360 gamers will have to wait an additional two weeks before getting access to it.

The game is multiplayer only, although it will include some narrative elements, and that means it is crucial for the Xbox One to offer the functionality required to quickly find opponents, create groups of players, and launch matches.

The first firmware for the Xbox One arrived in February, and Microsoft was forced to delay it for a few days in order to make sure that the rollout is smooth.

The experience gathered means that the company is likely to perform better with this second update, although the official date might still be postponed.

Microsoft has promised that it will deliver firmware updates for the Xbox One to both add new features and increase overall performance.
