Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, says that there’s no reason why the Xbox One cannot deliver great video games in the long term, while also serving all the entertainment needs of its core customers.

The community manager tells O.Canada that, “Why does there have to be an ‘and or?’ We need to be able to have something that’s both. When that console isn’t being used for playing a game, that means perhaps the gamer wants to watch some streaming media.”

Since the Xbox One was first announced, Microsoft has explained that it is creating a home console that will be able to easily switch between traditional video games and other applications.

At the moment, users have a rather limited selection of TV-style shows to experience, but the company has promised that more will be added in the near future.

An original series based on Halo is also supposed to be launched in 2014.
