Microsoft is facing quite a hard time in the tablet market where its Windows RT platform is heavily criticized by analysts and abandoned by some manufacturers.

Even though the tech giant has already expressed its full desire to stick to Windows RT for several new projects, experts believe that Microsoft would better focus on Windows 8 and give up on its tablet OS.

“Microsoft’s decision to push two different tablet operating systems, Windows 8 and Windows RT, has yielded poor results in the market so far,” IDC Research Director Tom Mainelli, was quoted as saying by TechWeek Europe.

“Consumers aren’t buying Windows RT’s value proposition, and long term, we think Microsoft and its partners would be better served by focusing their attention on improving Windows 8.”

Windows RT is also receiving lots of improvements as part of the 8.1 release, including improved battery life, better touch support, new Metro apps, and support for smaller tablets.

Microsoft is believed to be working on its very own small tablet to be included in the second-generation Surface tablet and equipped with an 8-inch screen. The new unit should be here by October, according to sources.
