With enhanced features for the next Windows Mobile release

Redmond-based software company unveiled last year a series of new services aimed at the users of a mobile phone powered by its Windows Mobile operating system, including the Windows Marketplace for Mobile and the My Phone backup service, and it seems that it is already working on providing enhancements to them. Some changes have been already brought to the Marketplace in late 2009, including support for handsets running under the WM 6.0 and 6.1 iterations, and now the My Phone service is expected to receive an update.

According to the guys over at mobiletechworld, the work on a new version of the service is suggested by a new Job ad from the company, which says clearly that My Phone is up for an update: “The My Phone server development team is looking for a software developer to join us as we embark on our 2.0 release. Our service includes a data sync engine that mirrors your phone’s data for backup and restore, as well as other cool scenarios like finding your lost phone, remotely locking or wiping the data and many others on the top of our list. If you are interested in mobile and online services, our team is at the heart of making it happen at Microsoft.”

Unfortunately, there are not too many details on what the update might bring forth to users, though some pieces of information can still be extracted from the ad. It seems that Microsoft is focused on bringing enhancements to the Windows Phone platform with web integration scenarios that include data protection or device management, along with integration with partner services and more. At the same time, users should also be able to enjoy better support for social networking, as well as enhanced location awareness and ease of use, as the ad shows.

One other thing that should be mentioned is that the service is also expected to include features and support for the next version of Windows Mobile, which, as most of you might already know, is Windows Mobile 7. “The My Phone test team is looking for an SDET to join us as we embark on our 2.0 release. Our client work involves the development & testing of features that form part of the next release of Windows Mobile,” the job ad reads. WM 7 is expected to include a wide range of new features when compared to previous releases, and it seems that an enhanced My Phone service will be one of them.
