Microsoft has only recently announced the second-generation Surface tablet, but the company is already thinking about its future models.

Panos Panay, the man in charge with the Surface division at Microsoft, explained during the company’s press event in New York that Redmond is now working on plans for the next three generations of the tablet.

Of course, no details have been provided and Panay remained tight-lipped when it comes to any release dates, but given the fact that the second-generation was launched approximately one year after the first model, expect an upgraded device to come by this time next year.

At the same time, such an announcement is proof that Microsoft is fully committed to its hardware plans, despite the wave of criticism coming from companies afraid that Redmond could become a powerful rival for their own business.
