Microsoft’s efforts to improve the Windows platform continue with new job openings posted by the company on its Careers website, this time looking for new workers that could contribute to a so-called “lean and mean Windows running everywhere.”

Neowin has come across a couple of postings suggesting that Microsoft is willing to reduce the footprint of the Windows operating system in order to make it available on more devices, most likely with smaller displays, which could help the company expand into some new markets, such as wearables.

“Working in this team requires the ability to analyze and change large, unfamiliar code bases without breaking them, strong cross-group skills, and the passion to get a lean and mean Windows running everywhere. The footprint of these smaller operating system is in the order megabytes, not gigabytes. Windows Phone 8 was the first released product using this technology,” one of the job ads reads.

Microsoft is already known as a company that bets big on hardware devices, including smaller gadgets that could support the firm’s transition to the devices and services approach serving as the core idea behind the One Microsoft transformation plan.

At the same time, the software giant is believed to be one of the companies that are willing to invest in wearable tech, including smart watches which could run Windows and come with small touch-screen displays.
