Microsoft’s efforts in the field of advanced machine learning techniques have been recognized by the United States Patent and Trademark Office that decided to hand the Redmond-based technology giant the first ever Patents for Humanity Award in the information technology category.

Infer.NET is the name of the technology that convinced the USPTO to reward Microsoft’s efforts with this prize, as the company has spent more than 10 years to create a truly advanced framework capable of supporting a wide array of non-commercial purposes, including scientific and medical research.

“The power of Infer.NET is that it can accelerate our understanding of complex problems, such as those commonly found in health, biology and the environment, and allows Microsoft Research and scientists across the world to advance towards solutions even faster,” Microsoft explained.

Infer.NET is available at absolutely no cost at this time, with Microsoft promising to support researchers who are looking to implement it in the coming years.
