Even though statistics indicate that Windows 8 has barely reached a 5 percent market share in June 2013, Microsoft claims that everything is going according to plan until now.

Tami Reller, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer for Windows, revealed at the Worldwide Partner Conference 2013 in Houston that Windows 8 has logged no less than 60 billion hours of usage since launch.

While she hasn’t provided any other details on the number of sold licenses, Reller explained that Microsoft had registered 20 million enterprise evaluations, which means that more businesses are now considering switching to the company’s new operating system.

Windows 8 will soon receive its first major refresh called 8.1, sources familiar with the matter claiming that the stable build could see daylight as soon as October. A preview version is already available for testing on both tablets and desktop computers.
