14 DAY TRIAL // During a Windows 10 event in January at its headquarters in Redmond, Microsoft revealed that Internet Explorer would be replaced with a completely new browser when the new operating system debuts later this year, revealing that it was still looking for a new name for the internally codenamed Spartan.
While some users believe that "Spartan" should be kept for the final browser too, Microsoft is still trying to find a better name for the app, pointing out that putting "Microsoft" in front of every single name raises the consumer appeal of any product.
The company hasn't yet decided whether or not the new browser should be called Microsoft Spartan, but The Verge reports that Redmond is working at full speed to kill the Internet Explorer brand in Windows 10.
Microsoft's marketing chief Chris Capossela has confirmed that new names are still being considered, adding that researches involving Google Chrome users have revealed that the Microsoft brand is still appealing to everyone, no matter their app of choice.
"Just by putting the Microsoft name in front of it, the delta for Chrome users on appeal is incredibly high," Capossela points out.
Spartan will replace Internet Explorer in Windows 10
Spartan browser, which will be available as a Modern app on PCs, tablets, and smartphones, will be offered alongside Internet Explorer on a number of Windows versions, most likely on Enterprise editions where compatibility issues with internally developed apps could raise a number of issues for some companies.
But for everyone else, Spartan could replace Internet Explorer completely from the very beginning, thus giving the new operating system the chance to start over not only with a new interface but also with fresh apps and revamped features.
Any other details regarding Spartan's name for the final version of Windows 10 are not available right now, but there's no doubt that, with the upcoming operating system, Microsoft will finally step away from Internet Explorer and fight the negative perception of its browser during the process.
Windows 10 is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2015, and a testing version of Spartan is expected to be included in the next Technical Preview build.
