14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 Mobile is already in development, and insiders can download a preview build to try it out ahead of everyone else and help Microsoft improve it, but the company promises that more significant tweaks will be made next month, after the PC version of the new operating system goes live.
Building one operating system for two different platforms at the same time is undoubtedly a difficult task, but Microsoft has what it takes to get this project right, so users should start seeing more improvements in the mobile build once the PC variant launches.
This way, some engineers working on the PC version development can switch focus to the mobile build and thus contribute not only to improvements implemented at a faster pace but also to more significant enhancements released to users.
That’s what Greg Sullivan, communications director for Microsoft Devices, is quoted as saying by PCWorld, while also noting that, once Windows 10 for PCs is ready, the attention will be shifted to mobiles.
And that certainly makes sense, but word has it that Microsoft has already started work on the first Windows 10 update expected to launch in late 2015, so part of the Windows development team will continue to focus on PCs even beyond this date.
Windows 10 Mobile launch date
Microsoft remains tight-lipped on the official release date of Windows 10 Mobile, but some reports that have reached the web in the last couple of months claim that the company might be looking at September or October for the beginning of the rollout.
The Windows 10 launch, however, will take longer than users ever wanted because Microsoft is planning a staggered release similar to the one of a Lumia firmware update (e.g. Denim), so users will get it after carriers test the new OS on their devices and give the go-ahead.
Some say that the rollout could be pushed to 2016 for some devices, but this is certainly one of the things that Microsoft wants to avoid after such a long wait for a new mobile OS.
