A new research conducted by analyst group Forrester indicates that two thirds of workers need a keyboard for their tablet for maximum productivity, especially when it comes to word processing, email, and other apps.

According to ZDNet, 35 percent of the respondents demand a tablet with a keyboard that could easily become a small laptop, more or less like Microsoft’s Surface.

While Surface sales are still well below expectations, this study could be an indication that Microsoft has actually made the right decision when it designed its tablet.

CEO Steve Ballmer and Panos Panay, the man in charge with the Surface project at Microsoft, have long explained that the Surface RT and the Pro have what it takes to become a very productive unit.

Unfortunately, sales are far from impressive, so Microsoft has even turned to a $900 million (€685 million) write-down to adjust inventories due to unsold tablets.

And nevertheless, the company is getting ready to debut the second-generation Surface that should be here by October, together with a brand-new 8-inch unit.
