Microsoft has revealed in a blog post that it wants to speed up the process of getting Windows 8.1 apps in the Windows Store, so starting with October 18, app certification should take no longer than 5 days.

At the same time, the company wants developers to focus more on Windows 8.1 apps, even though it will continue to list Windows 8 entries. 8.1 Metro tools, on the other hand, bring a number of advantages, so Microsoft hopes developers to focus on them too, including the automatic updates that are said to streamline the experience with the OS.

“Beginning Oct. 18, the Windows Store team has committed to no more than five days for initial certification, with many apps passing within a day or two, for apps developers submit for Windows 8.1. The Windows Store will continue to offer Windows 8 apps, and those apps will run on Windows 8.1,” the company said.

Windows 8.1 will officially go live on October 18 and Windows 8 users will be allowed to download it free from the Store. Users of other Windows versions, on the other hand, will have to pay at least $119.99 (€90) for the basic version.
