Windows Mobile 7, the next generation flavor of Microsoft's mobile client, is expected to become the next big thing in the platform's evolution, and it seems that the Redmond-based software company is also determined to prove just that. The OS has been heavily criticized already, and some even said that it has its death certificate signed already, but Windows Mobile 7 might just prove to be the salvation it is looking for.

[ADMARk=1]Apart from a long list of rumors regarding the features of the upcoming OS iteration, nothing has been officially announced, yet some of you might have already got  an idea on what to expect from the platform when it arrives. A series of touchscreen enhancements will be there, as well as a new look, which is already shaping up in other flavors of the platform, such as the Windows Mobile 6.5.3. However, features that were expected to arrive with 6.5 will also be there, and others more, but we'll still have to wait to see exactly what.

In the meantime, we can take a look at some details that some Microsoft developers working on the Windows Mobile 7 version shared with others during the Microsoft San Francisco Dev Camp in October. A video recording of the discussion shows a series of questions on the platform that got answered, confirming what was already rumored or believed to be happening. A transcript of the conversation, available thanks to a WMExperts forum member, shows that Microsoft is betting a lot on the upcoming Windows Mobile 7.

“The reason its been delayed and you haven't heard much about it is cause we had to go back to the drawing board with our strategy. Change things a little bit to be more competitive when we come out the door, so were not laughed at. We wanna make the same kind of impact the Zune HD made, if you look at Engadget and the blogosphere, people were very impressed with the Zune HD in many ways except for the lack of an app store. We wanna put out something that we're all proud of, which is competitive on day one, we don't wanna wait any longer,” is what a guy working on Windows Mobile 7 stated.

Other than that, the video, which can be seen here, also unveils that over-the-air updates are on track for Windows Mobile 7, though WM 6.5 won't see them, as one might have already figured it out, and better graphics support will also be present with the future OS version. Enthusiasts will certainly rejoice learning that some of the already rumored features of Windows Mobile 7 will be there, and we can only hope the Microsoft will get it right this time.
