Ever since Windows 8 and the first-generation Surface tablet came to be, Microsoft has embraced a completely new strategy, trying to keep everything secret and avoiding talking publicly about the way its new products performed on the market.

Now that Microsoft is looking for a new CEO and is going through a major reorganization process, the company has also pledged to keep us informed with more sales details on its products, including Surface tablets.

As WinBeta notes, Chris Suh, manager of Microsoft's investor relations, said during the company’s meeting with financial analysts a few days ago that, in the future, Redmond wants to share more details about Surface tablets, including sales and revenues.

“Starting in Q1 we will report quarterly the revenue derived from our Surface products and related accessories,” he said.

Analysts will be provided with what Microsoft calls “key performance indicators” supposed to improve not only the image of the company, but also to prevent potential lawsuits that accuse the firm of lying about sales of its products.

Microsoft was recently sued for providing false information about its Surface tablet, as the company had praised its product with every single occasion without revealing the fact that sales weren’t really going as expected.

In the end, the first-generation Surface tablet has caused a loss of no less than $900 million (€670 million) due to unsold tablets, so Microsoft had to accept the fact that its product performed well below expectations.

The same happened with Windows 8 too, as Microsoft rarely shared sales stats on its modern operating system. At this point, nobody knows for sure whether Windows 8 is good-selling product or not, but judging by market share figures provided by researchers across the world, the OS is just another flop released by the Redmond-based firm.

It remains to be seen whether Windows 8.1 can improve things a little bit or not.
