Microsoft is looking for a new face to associate to the evangelism effort around its upcoming operating system, currently dubbed Windows 8.

The software giant is looking for a Windows 8 Technical Evangelist, according to Tim Sneath, the boss of Windows 8 evangelism for Microsoft.

A job listing for the position provides potential candidates with all the details, including the promise that the role implies changing the world through software.

“In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of the latest platform innovations in the company, working closely with senior leaders from across engineering and marketing disciplines to build a strategy to accelerate adoption of our tools and platform,” the Redmond company reveals.

“You’ll work with global brands and startups alike to create killer experiences, leading the creation of compelling and memorable content and demos, arming our global field evangelism team to be successful, and gathering customer feedback that can help shape future products.”

The new Windows 8 Technical Evangelist will act as nothing short of the public ambassador for Windows application development, the software giant notes.

Since there seems to be a great deal of importance placed on knowledge of technologies such as HTML5, JavaScript, and jQuery, I’m guessing that the position also entails evangelizing the Metro platform in Windows 8 and Metro apps.

Here are some additional responsibilities outlined by Microsoft:

“Creating showcase design wins and keynote demos that demonstrate the value of the Microsoft platform;

“Working with key influencers to build technical communities and amplify our message;

“Preparing the Microsoft worldwide field to carry your message to their local customers and partners.”

Not many of you remember this, but back when Microsoft was building Windows 7, mute on all details about the upcoming OS, Sneath revealed that the company was looking for an Evangelist to push the product.

At that time, Sneath’s announcement circled the globe, devoured by users worldwide, famished for any details on the successor of Windows Vista.
