Via the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack, the Redmond Company delivered users the possibility of managing files from any Office 2007 program with previous versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Made available in April 2007, the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 is focused on enabling users to "open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations" by leveraging the file formats of the Office
2007 System.

The Compatibility Pack is supported exclusively on Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Service Pack 1. "A compatibility pack is available to make sure that you can open and save Office Open XML Formats in earlier versions of Microsoft Office. You can install the compatibility pack on a computer that is running Microsoft Office 2003 programs, Microsoft Office XP programs, or Microsoft Office 2000 programs. When you install the compatibility pack, you can open, edit, save, and create files in the robust Office Open XML Formats," Microsoft revealed.

With the Compatibility Pack, Microsoft aims to generalize the usage of its new Office Open XML file formats, applauded for the high level of security they deliver. Concomitantly, Microsoft is also trying to create a strong end user support base for the international standardization of Open XML. Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 released on June 18 2007, has been upgraded with the Office Isolated Conversion Environment (MOICE), a tool designed to deliver an extra layer of security to file formats from earlier versions of the Office suite. MOICE is a security enhancement designed to bring the advantages of the new Office 2007 'Metro' format to Office 2003, XP, 2002 and 2000. Microsoft security expert, David LeBlanc, revealed that MOICE uses conversion in order to mitigate the threats associated with malformed Office files.

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats was tested by Softpedia as being 100% Clean and is available for download here.
