Microsoft has just rolled out a new version of Skype that’s specifically aimed at Windows 8.1 users, as some adopters of the new operating system have been experiencing problems with the app.

The official release notes only point to general fixes and performance improvements, but the app is also supposed to correct some compatibility issues with Windows 8.1 and reported by users via the company’s Community forums.

The update is currently delivered via the Windows Store and is aimed at both Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1, with the download obviously offered free of charge.

According to some bug reports, a number of Windows 8.1 users have been experiencing unexpected crashes when running Skype in the Modern UI, while for others the application failed to load completely.

Of course, everyone is now recommended to update the app, so make sure you download Skype for Windows 8.1 as soon as possible.
