Windows 8.1 is almost here, so Microsoft keeps improving the built-in apps to make sure that they provide a truly unique experience to all adopters.

An update for the Maps app showed up in the Store this morning, bringing several new features and lots of performance improvements.

Exclusively available on Windows 8.1 RTM, the update comprises options to sign in with a Facebook account to see what business your friends like, what’s popular and what’s recommended for you, as well as integration with Bing Smart Search and the Bing Travel and Bing Weather apps.

The interface is now resizable for improved multi-tasking support in Windows 8.1, while both the look and the feel have been enhanced to make the most of the new Microsoft operating system.

The update is available on both Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 and can be downloaded straight from the Store.
