Microsoft has addressed an issue involving the performance of the Phishing Filter of Internet Explorer 7. As of now, the updates are available also for Windows Vista. In December 2006, Microsoft had issued patches for the IE 7 Phishing Filter performance issues for Windows XP with Service Pack 2, x86-based versions, Windows XP Professional, x64-based versions, Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1, x86-based versions, Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1, x64-based versions and Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1, Itanium-based versions.

"This update addresses an issue experienced by some users where CPU usage is high when they are navigating a page that contains multiple frames or when multiple frames are navigated simultaneously. This occurs when the phishing filter evaluates the page for each navigation, resulting in multiple simultaneous evaluations for the same page. If you have experienced any such performance issues, you are encouraged to download and install this update," revealed Steve Reynolds, IE Program Manager.

The updates for both Windows Vista, XP and Windows Server 2003 can be accessed via Microsoft's KB article 928089. Via this link you will be able to read additional details and to download the update manually. However, Microsoft will also release the IE 7 Phishing Filter update via WU.

"This update is now available on Windows Update for Windows Vista users and will be made available in February for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users," added Reynolds.
