Microsoft is always attempting to offer its customers a better experience, be it through Xbox Live with Gold features and free games, discounts, or other such marginally useful promotions. Now, the company has rebooted the Xbox Live Rewards system.

The Xbox Live Rewards program enables gamers to earn Rewards Credits, which can then be translated into their country's local currency, simply for buying and playing video games on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One computer entertainment systems.

The program is only available for those who join it, and, of course, not all countries are supported yet. You can earn points for completing Punchcards, taking surveys, spending money in the Xbox Store, and many other activities, and you can redeem your Rewards for games, digital content and other items in the Xbox Store.

The overhauled system now allows people to more easily track their progress and Rewards Credits across the Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms, and earn VIP stars for spending money in the Xbox Store, gaining VIP Stars that will get them even more rewards.

Referring your friends to get Gold subscriptions on Xbox Live will score you extra points, and now even playing the Games with Gold titles, awarded for free to subscribers, can earn you extra credits.

The VIP status feature allows you to get up to 10 percent back in points for all your purchases, if you're an avid consumer of digital content.

Furthermore, the update also introduces a nice offer for people planning on making purchases in the near future.

"Beginning September 4, 2014 to Xbox Live Rewards members who purchase a single Games on Demand title for a minimum of $60.00 will receive one punch. Get three punches before November 30, 2014 to complete the My Games on Demand Punchcard, and earn 20,000 Rewards Credits!," the blurb on the Rewards FAQ states.

The offer is also aimed at consumers of digital content of a different nature, with buying HD or SD movies awarding you four and two punches, respectively, and renting HD titles awarding one punch. Customers who get 10 punches by October 31, 2014, complete the My Movies Punchcard, earning 10k Rewards Credits.

Furthermore, fans of TV content get a similar offer, with every purchase worth $2.5 / €2 on eligible TV content adding a point toward the 10-point goal, which will award those who complete it by September 30, 2014, 5k Rewards Credits.
