It's a veritable updating fiesta over at Microsoft. Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 have all been served refreshes designed to either fix issues or to extend functionality across the operating systems. There are no less than four updates for Windows Vista, two for Windows XP and two for Windows Server 2003. The issues on both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of the operating systems have been resolved, with the small
mention that on Windows Vista, Microsoft also extended the functionality of Windows Media Center.

Following the introduction of the Windows Media Center update for Windows Vista Ultimate and Home Premium editions, users will be able to enjoy a much larger range of Windows Media Center Extenders. Now digital televisions and networked DVD players can be integrated seamlessly with Windows Media Center machines. A variety of content from images to music and video can now be streamed from Windows Media Center in the two Vista SKUs mentioned above to additional Extenders such as big-screen digital TVs.

The remaining Vista updates are designed to "resolve an issue where CGI applications that set multiple instances of a response header in Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 do not work as expected. [And to address a problem where] a user may receive a "Page can not be displayed" error message when using Internet Explorer 7 to access a web server configured to use OpenSSL, [or] where the system cannot listen for HTTP traffic when a non-administrator user starts an application."

The two Windows XP downloads deal with access violation errors when closing pop-up windows in Internet Explorer 7 on SP2, and to prevent issues generated by the implementation of Winsock Direct (WSD) in a fast System Area Network (SAN) environment via Windows Server 2003, the last also affecting Windows Server 2003. Additionally, Microsoft has enhanced the reliability, scalability, and memory optimization in relation to the functionality of the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) in Windows Server 2003.
