Version 1.1 is available for download

Microsoft introduced an update to Windows Embedded for Point of Service, the company's operating system for vertical markets. According to the Redmond Company, Windows Embedded for Point of Service (POS) 1.1 Update is now available for download. The update introduces a number of enhancements including support covering even the latest industry standards, an overhauled mass storage devices installation setup process and expanded languages.

Microsoft's announcement was delivered simultaneously with another piece of good new for Windows Embedded for Point of Service. The Redmond Company has experienced strong growth with its OS for the retail market. Customer adoption has driven a growth of over 100% in 2006. Data made public by IHL Consulting Group revealed that Windows Embedded for Point of Service has doubled its market share in the past year.

"Today's news reaffirms Microsoft's commitment to addressing retailers' needs, making the Windows Embedded for Point of Service platform the ideal solution for both retail customers and partners," said Ilya Bukshteyn, director of marketing for Windows Embedded at Microsoft. "We continue to win customers because we help them achieve their goals. That has not only resulted in market share gain for Windows Embedded for Point of Service, but has increased the overall Windows Embedded for Point of Service and partner ecosystem."

David Feldman, senior product manager within Microsoft's Mobile and Embedded products group, presented an overview of the partner success that the OS has been enjoying. Windows Embedded for Point of Service and/or POS for .NET compatible solutions have been built by in excess of 60 Microsoft partners. "Additionally, we currently have over 50 partners working on new Windows Embedded for Point of Service / POS for .NET compatible solutions, giving customers a breadth of point of service solutions to choose from," Feldman said.
