14 DAY TRIAL // Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has made available for download new versions of all programs in the Essential package, with various fixes and enhancements packed inside.
The new update for Windows Live Essentials 2011 has been released in all 48 languages, yet Microsoft claims that it is only a minor update for the package.
The new update affects programs such as Windows Live Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Family Safety, Writer, and Windows Live Mesh.
The new version of these applications is available today for users of Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
For those out of the loop, we should note that Microsoft’s Windows Live Essentials also includes Bing Bar, Messenger Companion, Silverlight, and Microsoft Outlook Connector Pack (Outlook Hotmail Connector and Social Connector Provider for Windows Live Messenger).
At the bottom of this article you will find download links for the new flavors of the aforementioned apps affected by the new update - which arrives as version 15.4.3555.308.
Microsoft also plans on automatically pushing the updates to its users in the near future, and will notify them on the availability of the new release.
“In the coming weeks, customers on Windows Vista SP2 and Windows 7 will receive a notification prompting them to upgrade to the new version,” Steven Abrahams, lead program manager – Windows Live, Microsoft, notes.
“Since this release contains critical fixes for the Essentials package, in a few months, the update will become required for all eligible customers,” he continues.
All users who will be moving from Windows Live Essentials 2009 to 2011 will be taking advantage of a wide range of new features, including “new social features in Windows Live Messenger, the ability to chat with Facebook friends, photo fuse in Photo Gallery, new themes in Movie Maker, and much more,” Abrahams continues.
