On Monday, Microsoft made available for download a new flavor of the Bing Translator app for Windows Phone.

Up for grabs in the Windows Phone Marketplace, the new version of the mobile software is meant to provide a better experience when it comes to translating printed text snapped with the handset’s camera.

The app will offer support for a wide variety of text, including street signs, dinner menus, train schedules, and newspaper headlines.

In addition to deciphering otherwise unintelligible text, the app also comes with an offline mode. Through downloading a language pack, users will take advantage of it even without Internet connectivity.

“If I wanted to ask a stranger for directions to the Eiffel Tower, I could also just speak into the phone in English—and wait a moment for the French,” Microsoft’s Michael Stroh explains.
