The 2009 Crack for Windows Vista has been rendered inoperable by the Microsoft KB931573 update, that the Redmond Company has released together with a batch of patches concomitantly with the product's commercial availability. The reports have been posted by the users of a forum backed by a pirate website. A select number of users claim that the KB931573 updated that covers all the editions of Windows Vista also manages to disable "the majority of Vista cracks."

However, there are other users running pirated copies of Vista that stated they did not experience any problems after installing the updates for the operating system. And in fact, KB931573 is an update designed to resolve activation issues on Vista machines.

The activation problems are generated by the users installing a new device driver, program, or by running or removing a program. In rare cases, users have been prompted to activate Vista when activation was not previously required.

"This problem may occur because a specific system setting is removed when a program runs with administrative credentials. The removal of this system setting may cause a BIOS validation check to fail. The BIOS validation check is part of the system activation process. Therefore, you may be prompted to activate Windows Vista, even though the system did not previously require activation," revealed Microsoft.

Although the Windows Genuine Advantage team over at Microsoft announced that the WGA mechanism would be updated in order to tackle the 2009 Crack, Time Crack, or Timer Crack providing a bypass for the activation of Windows Vista, the operating system has then hit the shelves while the 2099 workaround is still functional. In this context, the fact that KB931573 kills the 2099 crack may be just a coincidence.
