It’s a well-known fact that Microsoft worked really hard to make Windows 8.1 a much more familiar working environment especially for desktop users, so the company tries to promote some of the improvements with every single occasion.

This time, the software giant is talking about what it calls “the top 5 tweaks to make Windows 8.1 feel more familiar” in a new blog post, highlighting some of the changes that are part of the new release.

Boot to desktop, desktop app pinning to the taskbar, options to use the same background on the desktop as on Start, picture passwords, and settings to open Internet Explorer always on the desktop are all praised by Microsoft.

Of course, most users like these improvements too, but they’re still not enough to bring a significant change in Windows 8.1’s consumer appeal. Windows 9, on the other hand, is supposed to tackle all issues even better, with some people close to the matter hinting that the return of the Start Menu is very likely.
