Microsoft Unveils the Brand New Surface 2 Tablet
The company has introduced the successor of the Surface RT
As promised, Microsoft has just announced the second-generation Surface RT, simply called Surface 2, a device that comes with improved hardware and Windows RT 8.1.Just like the Pro 2 version, the new Surface 2 comes with a Surface branding on the kickstand, as compared to the first generation that boasted a Windows logo.
In addition to black, the device is also offered in a silver version, even though previous reports indicated that a white model was also possible.
The Surface 2 features a full 1080p ClearType display, just like the first-generation Surface Pro tablet.
“It is much faster – now with 72 graphics cores, twice the internet speed, and USB 3.0. It is even more beautiful – with an enticing new color that reflects the true color of Magnesium, a full HD screen, and a thinner and lighter design. And most importantly, it is even more productive – now with Outlook RT which is how I do email, a 3.5MP front-facing camera optimized for Skype for my video calls home or video messages when we can’t connect,” Panos Panay, head of the Surface division, said.
Surface 2's battery is said to last for about 10 hours, thanks to lots of optimizations made to the Nvidia Tegra 4 processor. Office 2013 RT Home & Students continues to be offered for free to all buyers, as Microsoft is looking to boost productivity as much as possible.
Just like the Pro 2, Surface 2 can be pre-ordered right now, but deliveries won't start sooner than October 22.
