14 DAY TRIAL // The Windows Live branding is being slowly but surely eliminated from Microsoft’s books, the latest reports on the matter suggest.
We already knew that the company was changing the name of various products to eliminate the Windows Live term, yet it seems that the move is also set to include the name of various divisions within the company.
Thus, the Windows Live team has been renamed to Windows Services, a recent article from ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley unveils.
The move was accompanied by a change in name for the Windows and Windows Live Division as well, which is now called the Windows Division, though still led by Steven Sinofsky, said article notes.
Nothing has been officially confirmed on the matter for the time being, but it might not be too long before Microsoft actually updates its online pages to reflect the change.
Moreover, it appears that the change will also result in the creation of a brand new division inside Microsoft, one that would be in charge with applications previously related to Windows Live Essentials.
Thus, all of these apps, including Mail, Calendar, Writer, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Family Safety, and more, will be managed by a newly formed Windows Apps team.
As one might have expected, the Windows Live Essentials name was altered as well, now being called simply Windows Essentials.
The change has been spotted before, when Microsoft started to unveil services and applications that would be available for the Windows 8 operating system.
Windows Live was no longer associated with Hotmail or SkyDrive, and the launch of Outlook.com further expanded the gap between these services and the Live term. Not to mention that the Windows Live ID is currently called Microsoft Account.
For the time being, however, Microsoft hasn’t provided an official comment on said name changes, nor on the creation of the new Windows Apps division, it seems.
