Microsoft is trying to lend a hand to the struggling Greek economy by opening a new local contact center aimed at customers across the entire Old Continent.

According to a report published by Shared Services Link, Don Grantham, president of Microsoft Central and Eastern Europe, revealed the news in a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaris.

The new facility will employ up to 550 workers as part of a deal with customer service provider Teleperformance. There are no details as to when the contact center is scheduled to begin its operations, but the collaboration will come into effect early next year.

At the same time, Microsoft is also trying to support unemployed Greeks by providing training programs including 400 lessons on IT and entrepreneurship, the source adds. The training program will span over a period of three years and will be available for up to 500,000 local residents.
