The Redmond Company has recently made available for the general public the Network Diagnostics for Windows XP. The utility aims at offering users running genuine copies of windows an alternative
solution to professional support over the phone or via the Internet. The tool is designed to be implemented by home user and it offers guidelines to fixing network related issues. "The Network Diagnostics for Windows XP tool analyzes information about your network connectivity to help you troubleshoot network-related problems with your computer. Typically you will do this along with a support professional, either on the phone or over the Internet. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer," reads a message posted on Microsoft's site.
The Network Diagnostics for Windows XP will asses several criteria to help repair routine problems. After analyzing the network connectivity status, the utility delivers a diagnostic that guides the user in repairing eventual problems. In order to do so, the tool performs an IP configuration test, a Default gateway test and a Winsock test. It also tests DNS, Firewall and validates the Internet connectivity. With this initiative, Microsoft places a certain amount of control in the hands of the user and also saves on human resources that would otherwise have dealt with such issues.
