Redmond-based software giant Microsoft is getting ready to make some announcements regarding its Windows Phone platform at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The company took it to Twitter to tease the news, but did not offer specific info on what would be unveiled.

Rumor has it that this might have something to do with Sprint’s mentioning of Windows Phone 8 as coming soon to its network, yet no confirmation has emerged so far.

“Stay tuned for some exciting news later today,” Microsoft says in a tweet.

The announcement might also be related to some of the software update plans that the company should fully detail to its users. Microsoft is expected to start delivering the Windows Phone 7.8 upgrade in the near future, just as Nokia confirmed only several days ago.

Update: Sprint has officially announced plans to launch Windows Phone 8 handsets this year.
