Siri does not seem to have any advantages over its main competitors

Microsoft, Apple and Google, the three giants fighting for supremacy over the smartphone market, have their own strong points and downsides. On the OS front, Android is by far the ruler of the market, followed by iOS and Windows Phone.

Even though the differences between the three main mobile platforms are huge to say the least, they continue to compete in an attempt to steal each other’s fans using some of the most ingenious marketing tricks.

Moreover, each time one of these companies adds a new, totally innovative feature to their operating system, its rivals are trying to offer a similar one, but improved if possible.

One of these features is the digital assistant that is now part of all three major mobile platforms: Android, iOS and Windows Phone. Obviously, they are called differently and do different things, but the feature is based on the same concept.

Google Now, Siri and Cortana are now competing for supremacy over the digital assistants’ world. While we’re not sure how much this can influence Android phones sales, we believe Cortana really contributes to Windows Phone’s market share expansion by a lot.

Cortana is one of Windows Phone's strongest points, but it could help Microsoft’s operating system even more if it would be available in more countries.

As it is, Microsoft’s Cortana is fully available in the United States, but a beta version has been launched in the UK, while Indian customers can take advantage of the alpha iteration.

The good news is that the personal digital assistant has been confirmed to arrive in a lot more countries in the next couple of months.

Given the fact that Cortana is an important part of the Windows Phone ecosystem, Microsoft has decided to air several commercials showing some of the digital assistant’s main features.

The latest of these ads has been recently released and compares Cortana with Siri. Dubbed “Mirror Mirror,” the commercial hilariously takes a jab at Apple’s iPhone by comparing it with the HTC One M8 for Windows.

After demoing some of its capabilities, Microsoft makes a worthy remark about the HTC One M8 for Windows which comes with two front stereo speakers, while the Apple’s iPhone features only one.

The joke is the fact that when Apple’s iPhone is placed on a surface on the bottom side, it basically stays on its only loudspeaker. While this is quite humorous, it mostly highlights HTC One M8’s specs and design over Apple’s iPhone.

All in all, do you think Cortana, which was launched about 5 months ago, is better than Siri that’s been around for more than 3 years? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
