Microsoft Codename "Tahiti" is a Pre-Beta that the Redmond Company is delivering exclusively to users that already have a password and an invite. Additionally "the download location may be removed at any time once use hits pre-determined levels," informed Microsoft.

The word is still out on what Microsoft Codename "Tahiti" is but the Redmond Company is defining it as "a fast, easy way to share documents and screen views with small groups of friends or coworkers; anytime, anywhere. Use Codename "Tahiti" to put your heads together and collaborate." Via Tahiti, Microsoft enables users to create, share and communicate across a network and through firewalls in what Microsoft calls Sharing Sessions.

"I'm playing with the pre-beta now. It looks and feels like a shared whiteboarding environment that appears as though it will be ad-supported when it debuts," revealed Mary Jo Foley.

Users are permitted to share not only an application but also the entire desktop to all the members of the sharing session. In this context, Microsoft has warned that while sharing an instance of an application, all other opened instances will also be shared. Tahiti is designed to work with either Windows XP or Windows Vista, on over 300 kbs Internet connections and with a Windows Live ID Account.

According to the Redmond Company, the final version of Tahiti will deliver audio support, chat capabilities, and will be integrated with Office Communicator. Tahiti users are restricted to collaborate only with persons that are also using Tahiti. Otherwise than confirming that it is indeed a collaboration tool, Microsoft failed to reveal additional details.
