Microsoft has updated the downloads available for its synchronization platform. At the end of the past week, the Redmond company started offering the Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 Redistributable Package and the Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 Software Development. The Microsoft Sync Framework is designed as a synchronization platform that allows developers that leverage the resource to create applications and services complete with synchronization capabilities, capable of connecting and syncing with a wide variety of sources, across all networks and taking advantage of any protocols.

“Sync Framework 2.0 expands on the capabilities offered by Sync Framework 1.0: Adds features that cater to new scenarios or scenarios that were difficult to support. Reduces the amount of work required to develop providers. Supports more data sources with new built-in providers,” Microsoft noted, adding that: “The major new features and improvements included in Sync Framework 2.0 are In Core Components: Simple Providers, Flexible Filtering, Improved Conflict Handling, Data Conversion between Providers, Change Application Service, Tracing [and] In Database Providers: New Database Providers, Robust Memory-Based Batching, Provisioning and Management APIs, [as well as] performance improvements.”

According to the Redmond company, both the Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 Redistributable and SDK have been designed to play nice with the latest iteration of the Windows client. Sync Framework 2.0 Redistributable and SDK come with support for Windows 7; Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2008; Windows Vista; Windows XP.

With the Sync Framework 2.0 Redistributables, Microsoft is essentially providing developers with no less than three redistributables designed to be included in the packages for apps that leverage synchronization. The Redmond company explained that it had divided the Sync Framework components in three redistributable packages, in order to permit devs to address specific application requirement scenarios.

“The three redistributables are: Synchronization.msi: includes managed and native API for the synchronization runtime, core components, and Web synchronization components. This package is a pre-requisite for the other packages and must be installed first. ProviderServices.msi: includes managed and native API for simple custom providers, the file synchronization provider, the metadata storage service, and also DLLs for the lightweight database that the storage service uses. DatabaseProviders.msi: includes managed API for database synchronization providers,” Microsoft stated.
