Microsoft has revealed in its third quarter earnings report that the first-generation Surface tablet, the one that caused a $900 million (€670 million) loss due to unsold inventory, is selling a lot better right now, without providing any specifics.

The company said in the official papers that the Surface product family had posted a quarter-to-quarter increase in revenue of $400 million (€289 million), even though the second-generation model wasn’t yet available.

The second-generation Surface tablet, on the other hand, went on sale on October 22, with Microsoft making the device available in 21 countries across the world.

Both the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 come with significant hardware upgrades and are running Windows 8.1, Microsoft’s latest OS version that brings important improvements, including a Start button and new Start screen customization options.
