As we’ve reported in the last couple of days, the Surface Pro 2 received a firmware update on this month’s Patch Tuesday rollout that is apparently causing some problems to a number of tablets.

While some users reported battery issues, others claimed that the firmware fails to install, even though it’s being delivered via Windows Update.

Now Microsoft said in a statement for WinBeta that despite all these errors, the firmware update is actually installing just fine and users should check in Device Manager whether they are running the latest firmware version or not.

“Some people may by experiencing a false error message, 80070490. The firmware update should be installing correctly; however, if you received this error message, we recommend that you go to Device Manager check the firmware history to ensure the latest update installed. If it did not install correctly, please let us know on this forum so we can work to fix the issue. Thank you for your patience and know we are in the process of addressing this issue,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.

While there’s no indication that these problems could be related, some users are complaining that their Surface Pro 2 graphic adapters return errors after the firmware update.

Here’s what one of the affected users said in a post on the Community forums:

“I'm having weird issues with my graphics card on my SP2. Whenever I open Photoshop I get a message saying – ‘display driver stopped responding and has recovered’. It only seems to happen after I installed a few recent updates to WIN 8.1 (I know this because I have already tried 3 different Surface pro 2's trying to fix this issue).”

Of course, Microsoft is yet to release a workaround on this, but make sure that you install the latest drivers for your Surface Pro 2 until a fix is being provided.
